I almost never log in to the Twitter website and usually when I do it’s just to authorise an app. Whilst I was researching something for a future article I came across a feature I never knew existed – you can block the retweets of a specific user.
Log in to Twitter and view the profile of a user you follow, then click the user account options (to the left of the Following button) and select Turn Off Retweets. Prepare to watch your timeline become a lot quieter.
Everyone has that one person in their timeline who just retweets everything (if you don’t – it’s probably you) and being able to just block the retweets rather than unfollow the user is a much better alternative. I don’t know if it’s something apps can do via the API but I’ve only ever seen the ability to do this via Twitter’s website.
