Microsoft releases its own Windows Phone YouTube app, bypasses API restrictions

ReadWrite:Wow, Microsoft had some serious hutzpah to release this. ReadWrite describes the app as bypassing YouTube’s official APIs to provide features that shouldn’t be allowed in 3rd-party apps:

Microsoft appears to be sticking a finger in Google’s eye with the launch of its new YouTube app for Windows Phone. The app, ReadWrite has confirmed, strips out YouTube ads when it plays back videos and allows users to easily download video by way of a prominent “download” button.

Outrageous. Could you imagine if Google did something like this and bypassed the default security settings of Safari to allow ad-tracking cookies to be placed on users’ iPhones?
