If you use FaceTime or Messages on multiple devices (e.g., iPhone and iPad), it’s a good idea to make sure that each of them have the same caller ID. This makes sure that whoever you’re calling or texting will know it’s you.

For instance, a friend of yours may only have one particular email address and phone number for you. If you have a few email addresses associated with your Apple ID and your iPad’s caller ID isn’t the email address your friend has, a FaceTime call from you can appear as an unknown caller.

Ensuring a consistent caller ID can also help prevent multiple Message conversations with the same person-a common frustration with iMessage.

FaceTime

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap FaceTime
  3. In the section “Caller ID”, select the phone number or email address you wish to use

Messages

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Messages > Send & Receive
  3. In the section “Start new conversations from”, select the phone number or email address you wish to use
